Budget Friendly Valentine’s Day Theme for Speech Therapy

Valentine’s Day is almost here so it’s time to start incorporating those V-Day themed lessons/activities into your speech-language therapy sessions!

A lot of times I’ll look at cute ideas on Pinterest, Instagram, or TPT and think to myself, “I would LOVE to do something that fun, but I don’t have the time/money/energy to make it happen!”

If you’re like me, then you are already stretched thin at work with treatments, evals, billing, paperwork, progress notes, and more paperwork. (Not even counting all of the personal life stuff!)

We need quick, easy, and affordable.

So here are some free or $1 ideas to incorporate into your Valentine’s Day theme for your therapy sessions!

1. Books – Free Read Alouds on YouTube or Hit up the Library

Literacy based therapy sessions are research backed and SO good for our young minds!

You do not have to go out and buy Valentine’s Day themed books to use them in therapy. You can check out your local/school library, or even look up read alouds on YouTube!

The best part is that these options are totally free!

Here are two that I’ve used:

Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day is Cool

Love Monster

2. Cheap Valentine’s Day Crafts

Some ideas –

  • have kids make handmade Valentine’s cards using construction paper and markers
  • cut out little paper hearts and assemble them together to make a wreath, caterpillar, or butterfly with a handprint
  • decorate paper bags or boxes (just need markers!)
  • this freebie 100 chart for reinforcement or to get 100 trials in during articulation therapy

3. $1 Activities on TPT

I wanted some quick and easy activities for my Valentine’s Day theme so I made these that are print and go…..and they’re only ONE DOLLAR!

4. Dollar Tree Sensory Bins

Dollar Tree is my favorite place to go when I want to change up my sensory bins – especially with the holidays! They have lots of fun red/pink/white pom poms, beads, felt hearts, etc.

I even like to buy my bins from there! You can get a great Valentine’s themed sensory activity for just a couple of bucks!

**It should be noted that Dollar General is not the same as Dollar Tree! Dollar Tree sells everything for $1!**

Let me know in the comments what YOU are planning for your Valentine’s themed therapy sessions! I’d love to hear your ideas!
